Reflecting on what the world will look like in a century is daunting. Emilio Flores Marquez, however, has not only witnessed it but has become the oldest living man on Earth. Born on August 8, 1908, in Carolina, Puerto Rico, Marquez is now 112 years old.
Marquez, the second-oldest of 11 children, grew up assisting on the family farm and caring for his siblings. He married Andrea Perez, and together they shared 75 years until her passing in 2010. His devoted children now look after him in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, where he resides with his five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Marquez attributes his longevity to a life filled with love and devoid of anger. His father instilled in him the value of love and kindness towards others. “My father raised me with love, loving everyone. He always told me and my siblings to do good, to share everything with others,” shared Marquez.
Craig Glenday, Editor-in-Chief of Guinness World Records, expressed his admiration for individuals like Marquez, stating, “It’s always an honor to celebrate these remarkable human beings.” Glenday highlighted the unique aspect of Marquez’s birthdate on the 8th day of the 8th month in the 8th year of the 20th century.
