Wondering about the future 100 years from now can be overwhelming, especially knowing that most of us might not live to experience it. However, there are a select few who, either through luck or determination, defy the odds to witness the world of tomorrow. Emilio Flores Marquez falls into this exceptional group.
Certified by the Guinness Book of World Records, Marquez holds the title of the oldest living man on Earth. Born on August 8, 1908, in Carolina, Puerto Rico, Marquez is currently 112 years old and will soon be turning 113 in a couple of months.
Marquez, the second-oldest of 11 siblings and the eldest son in his family, spent his early years assisting on the family farm and looking after his brothers and sisters. He was married to his wife, Andrea Perez, for 75 years until her passing in 2010. Marquez has four children, two of whom currently provide care for him in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, along with five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Guinness World Records has officially recognized Emilio Flores Marquez from Puerto Rico as the oldest living person (male) at the age of 112 years and 326 days, surpassing the previous record held by Dumitru Comănescu of Romania who lived to 111 years and 219 days.https://t.co/xFmJaZEem1 pic.twitter.com/l6VLFJPHZV

Marquez attributes his long life to a simple secret: love. He believes that a life filled with love and devoid of anger is the key to longevity. “My father taught me to love, to love everyone. He always advised me and my siblings to do good and share everything with others,” he shared.
Craig Glenday, the Editor-in-Chief of Guinness World Records, expressed his admiration for these exceptional individuals. He stated, “It is always a privilege to honor these extraordinary human beings.”
Glenday further added, “I am delighted to showcase Sr. Márquez, who interestingly was born on the 8th day of the 8th month in the 8th year of the 20th century, and share his captivating story with the broader audience.”
