The rapper incorporated footage of a police raid on his home into his music videos.
Rapper Joseph Edgar Foreman, known as Afroman, is facing a lawsuit from officers of the Sheriff’s Department in Adams County, Ohio. In August 2022, police raided Afroman’s home suspecting illegal substance possession and trafficking. The rapper’s wife and home security cameras captured the raid, which Afroman later used in his music videos.

The officers are suing Afroman for using their images without authorization in his videos, alleging that the circulation of the videos caused them “humiliation, ridicule, mental distress, embarrassment, and damage to their reputation.”
The formal complaint states, “Plaintiffs have suffered damages, including all profits derived from and attributable to Defendants’ unauthorized use of Plaintiffs’ personas.”
The complaint further alleges that Afroman’s actions were intentional and reckless, showing disregard for the officers’ rights.
Afroman contends that the police forfeited their privacy rights by executing a warrant he claims was falsely obtained.

Afroman defended his use of the footage, stating on Instagram, “My video footage is my property. … I am a law-abiding taxpayer who was violated by criminals disguised as law enforcement.” His lawyer intends to counter sue based on an alleged unlawful raid, theft of money, and the harm caused to his client’s family, career, and property.
