In 2019, Andrew Lloyd Webber witnessed the release of the film adaptation of his classic musical Cats, which received harsh criticism and failed to impress audiences. The movie’s unsettling trailers, unimpressive musical numbers, and poor reception both from critics and viewers took a toll on Webber.
Webber expressed his disappointment in the movie, stating, “Cats was off-the-scale all wrong. There wasn’t really any understanding of why the music ticked at all. I saw it and I just thought, ‘Oh, God, no.’ It was the first time in my 70-odd years on this planet that I went out and bought a dog. So the one good thing to come out of it is my little Havanese puppy.”
Andrew Lloyd Webber sought approval from an airline to have his therapy dog accompany him on a flight, explaining that he is emotionally affected by the film adaptation of #Cats.
When asked for proof of the need for the dog, Webber humorously pointed to Hollywood’s treatment of his musical #Cats.
During the COVID lockdown, Webber and his puppy became close companions. He even took the dog with him on a trip to the United States, registering it as a therapy dog. Webber shared, “I wrote and stated that I require him with me at all times because I’m emotionally affected, and I need this therapy dog.”
