With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, the timing couldn’t have been better for the release of ‘Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ for the Nintendo Switch. Many individuals, including myself, sought solace in the game, nurturing our islands while staying home. Despite its initial popularity, dedicated fans felt that it lacked some key features from previous iterations. After some time, ‘New Horizons’ is set to receive these missing elements in its final free update, along with additional paid downloadable content (DLC).
The upcoming free update will elevate the game to version 2.0, bringing a host of new elements. Players can expect a variety of new furniture pieces, customization options for their homes and islands, the return of the beloved Froggy Chair, new island installations, Brewster’s café in the museum for socializing, island tours by Kapp’n offering diverse climates and time zones, reintroduction of the Gyroid collection, and a bustling merchant bazaar on Harv’s Island.

The paid DLC called the Happy Home Paradise DLC offers players a new role as part of the Paradise Planning team. In this position, players will be tasked with designing vacation homes on a nearby archipelago based on clients’ requests. Crafting these unique homes not only builds connections but also unlocks rare furniture and additional homemaking tools.
Both the update and DLC are scheduled for release on November 5 with the DLC priced at $24.99, also available as part of Switch Online’s new Expansion Pack subscription tier.
