Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse captured hearts as a brilliantly animated movie with outstanding performances, a touching storyline, and thrilling action sequences. The combination of talent like Nic Cage and John Mulaney made it truly exceptional. Now, the anticipation builds as fans wonder if the sequel can surpass its predecessor.
Sony Pictures Animation has revealed the new trio of directors chosen for the Into the Spider-Verse sequel. This trio includes Kemp Powers, known for co-directing Pixar’s Oscar-nominated film Soul, Joaquim Dos Santos, who directed Avatar: The Last Airbender and Avatar: The Legend of Korra, and Justin K. Thompson, the production designer for the first Spider-Verse film.
Expressing their excitement, the directing team stated, “The crew behind the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse set such a ridiculously high bar, and we’re humbled to take on the challenge of charting the next chapter in the story of Miles Morales.”

Joining the directorial team are returning producers Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Christina Steinberg, along with co-producer Alonzo Ruvalcaba. Peter Ramsey, the director of the first film, will serve as an executive producer for the sequel.
In praise of the new directors, Lord and Miller commented, “We are so lucky to have Joaquim, Justin, and Kemp on the Spider-Verse team. All three of them elevate every project they take on, and they are certainly raising our game. We honestly just like them and want to be their friends and we’re hoping working on this movie together for the next few years will totally make that happen.”
