Every dog is a good dog, but they all have their own unique behaviors. In a recent incident, President Joe Biden’s 3-year-old German shepherd, Major, was involved in a minor biting incident. The first incident occurred when Major was surprised by a stranger, resulting in a minor bite that didn’t break the skin.
After the initial incident, Major received training in Delaware before returning to the White House. However, he had another moment of nervousness when he nipped a National Park Service employee on the White House’s South Lawn. Fortunately, the bite did not break the skin, and the employee received prompt medical attention at the White House.

In an interview with ABC News following the incidents, Biden discussed Major’s challenges in adjusting to life in the White House.
“I guess what surprised me is the White House itself, living there. Every door you turn to, there’s a guy there in a black jacket,” Biden said. “You turn a corner, and there’s two people you don’t know at all. And he moves to protect.”
“But he’s a sweet dog. Eighty-five percent of the people there love him. He just — all he does is lick them and wag his tail. But … I realize some people, understandably, are afraid of dogs to begin with.”
