Employees at an Apple Store in Atlanta are on their way to forming a union, a first for Apple Stores.
Yesterday, workers at the Apple Store located in the Cumberland Mall in Atlanta, Georgia took a crucial step towards unionization by voting for a union election. The majority of employees at the store have shown strong support for this movement, with around 70% of the staff signing union authorization cards with the Communications Workers of America, who will represent them.
According to Genius Bar worker Derrick Bowles, “Apple is a great place to work, but we believe there is room for improvement. We are eager to join forces with our colleagues to engage in negotiations with Apple and make this workplace even better,” as stated in a release by the CWA.
While the CWA has not disclosed specific demands, they have highlighted issues such as lack of fair compensation, cost of living adjustments, and equitable stock options for Apple’s retail workers.
In response to the unionization efforts, Apple emphasized to CNN that they already provide comprehensive benefits and compensation packages, including healthcare, tuition reimbursement, parental leave, stock grants, and more.
