Sony is shifting its focus from Morbius to another Spider-Man villain getting a standalone movie – El Muerto. Many might not be familiar with the character as he only made a brief appearance in a few Spider-Man comic books, but Sony is giving him the spotlight with Bad Bunny set to portray him.
Recently announced at CinemaCon, Sony has set the release date for El Muerto on January 12, 2024. Although an official movie synopsis is yet to be revealed, it’s expected to follow the original storyline where El Muerto is a Mexican wrestler with inherited superhuman powers. The family’s tradition requires each wrestler to defeat their archenemy, El Dorado, in a wrestling match.
Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, has been chosen for the leading role. Sony praises him as the “first Latino actor to star in a live-action Marvel film.”

At CinemaCon, Bad Bunny expressed his excitement about the role, stating, “This opportunity to bring El Muerto to life is amazing, it’s incredible. I love wrestling. I grew up watching wrestling and I’m a wrestler. I’m a former champion so this is why I love this character. I think it’s the perfect role for me and it will be epic.”
