A menorah will now be a part of the White House holiday decorations each year.
In the past, US Presidents have received symbols of Jewish holidays but none have been included in the White House’s holiday decorations until now. This year marks a change in that tradition.

President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden recently unveiled the first official White House menorah to honor Hanukkah. This menorah will be kept as part of the White House holiday collection throughout the year.
Besides celebrating Hanukkah, the menorah symbolizes a stand against the growing antisemitism and hate crimes seen in the US in recent times.

US Attorney General Merrick Garland emphasized the importance of standing against antisemitism and bigotry during the menorah lighting ceremony. He mentioned, “Together, we must stand up against the disturbing rise in antisemitism. Our democracy depends on it,” highlighting his personal connection to Jewish ancestors who faced persecution.
