Recently, the United States Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, thereby eliminating constitutionally protected rights related to seeking and receiving abortion care, has sparked widespread public backlash. Numerous protests have erupted nationwide, criticizing the Justices for disregarding the majority opinion and removing an important medical protection.
In response to this polarizing issue, various entertainers and public figures have taken sides, with one notable personality going a step further by expressing his disenchantment with the United States. During a show at London Stadium as part of Green Day’s Hella Mega tour, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong declared his intention to renounce his US citizenship in light of the Roe v. Wade ruling.
Expressing his frustration, Armstrong told the audience, “I’m renouncing my citizenship. I’m coming here.” He also expressed dissatisfaction with the state of affairs in the US, stating, “There is too much stupidity in the world to return to that miserable excuse for a country.” He hinted that he plans to spend more time abroad in the future.
