Chicago Man Sues Buffalo Wild Wings Over Boneless Wings

The plaintiff claimed that using breast meat in boneless wings constitutes false advertising.

For about as long as the concept of boneless chicken wings has existed, it’s been relatively common knowledge that they aren’t actually chicken wings. After all, a chicken wing is characterized by the presence of a bone, whereas a “boneless wing” usually uses breast meat cut in a similar shape for those who prefer not to have bones. Apparently, though, one patron of Buffalo Wild Wings considers this an act of false advertising.

Chicago resident Aimen Halim has filed a lawsuit against restaurant chain Buffalo Wild Wings, claiming that, as their boneless wings are not actually chicken wings, the restaurant is falsely advertising its products. “Unbeknownst to plaintiff and other consumers, the products are not wings at all, but instead, slices of chicken breast meat deep-fried like wings,” the lawsuit reads. “Indeed, the products are more akin, in composition, to a chicken nugget rather than a chicken wing.”

“This clear-cut case of false advertising should not be permitted, as consumers should be able to rely on the plain meaning of a product’s name and receive what they are promised,” the lawsuit adds.

Buffalo Wild Wings, for their part, responded with a snarky comment on Twitter. “It’s true,” their tweet reads. “Our boneless wings are all white meat chicken. Our hamburgers contain no ham. Our buffalo wings are 0% buffalo.”

Halim’s lawyers are seeking a jury trial, plus damages in an unspecified sum. They are also calling on other individuals with grievances on the naming of boneless wings to join the suit.
