Earlier this week, the New York Attorney General Letitia James’ office released documents detailing the extent to which CNN news anchor Chris Cuomo supported his brother, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, during his sexual harassment allegations last year. These documents included transcripts of conversations and texts between the brothers discussing how to address the accusations. In light of these revelations, CNN has chosen to suspend Chris Cuomo from his reporting duties on their network indefinitely.
A spokesperson for CNN stated, “The New York Attorney General’s office released transcripts and exhibits Monday that shed new light on Chris Cuomo’s involvement in his brother’s defense. The documents, which we were not previously aware of, raise serious concerns.”
“When Chris admitted to providing advice to his brother’s staff, he violated our policies, which we acknowledged publicly,” the spokesperson added. “While we recognized the challenging position he was in, prioritizing family over work, these new documents suggest a deeper level of involvement than we were aware of. Consequently, we have suspended Chris indefinitely pending further review.”
Chris Cuomo expressed his feelings of hurt and embarrassment after being suspended from his hosting duties by CNN. In a statement, he said, “The last thing I ever wanted to do was compromise any of my colleagues.”
During his personal SiriusXM radio show, Cuomo affirmed his respect for CNN’s investigative process and stated that he never intended to jeopardize his coworkers. “It pains me to admit it. It’s humiliating,” he shared on his show. “But I accept it.”
