If you’re a fan of the TV show South Park, you probably recognize the name “Casa Bonita.” This authentic Mexican eatery located in Lakewood, Colorado is known for its lively atmosphere with mariachi bands, cliff divers, and delicious sopapillas. Casa Bonita gained fame after being featured in a 2003 episode of South Park, establishing a link between the restaurant and the show. With Casa Bonita facing closure due to financial troubles, the creators of South Park, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, expressed interest in buying the establishment for $3.1 million. Despite their intentions, some local residents in Lakewood are against this acquisition.
An advocacy group named “Save Casa Bonita” has formally opposed Stone and Parker’s plans to purchase the restaurant. The group, led by Andrew Novick, has raised objections in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court case involving Summit Family Restaurants Inc., the company that owns Casa Bonita. Save Casa Bonita is gathering funds through platforms like GoFundMe and seeking investors to help pay off the restaurant’s debts, ensuring it remains under the ownership of Lakewood citizens.
“It is disappointing that our group was not given a fair opportunity to negotiate for the Debtor’s assets,” stated Novick in his objection. “We believe that this sale should not proceed due to concerns over possible unfair advantages in the bidding process.”
Update: Save Casa Bonita has formally challenged the sale of Casa Bonita to the South Park creators in bankruptcy court. The group is determined to acquire the restaurant independently. https://t.co/7QFLBNW2CI

“Our group strongly believes that the proposed sale was not conducted fairly and that external pressures influenced the decision to favor a specific buyer,” Novick emphasized.
As of now, the judge presiding over the case has not issued any official rulings.
