If you enjoy watching South Park, you’re likely familiar with “Casa Bonita,” a real Mexican restaurant in Lakewood, Colorado known for its mariachi bands, cliff divers, and sopapillas. The restaurant gained fame after being featured in a 2003 episode of South Park, becoming linked with the show ever since. When Casa Bonita faced closure due to bankruptcy, the creators of South Park, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, expressed interest in purchasing it, offering $3.1 million for the deal. However, some local residents of Lakewood are against Stone and Parker’s acquisition.
An advocacy group named “Save Casa Bonita” has formally opposed the sale of the restaurant to Stone and Parker. The group, led by Andrew Novick, submitted an objection in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court case involving Summit Family Restaurants Inc., the owner of Casa Bonita. Save Casa Bonita is raising funds through GoFundMe and investors to help pay off some of the restaurant’s debts and retain ownership for the Lakewood community.
“We believe this sale should be blocked due to unfair practices and undue influence,” Novick stated in the objection. “Our group was not given a fair opportunity to negotiate for the purchase of the assets.”

“Our group strongly believes that the proposed sale was not conducted fairly and that the landlord influenced the process,” Novick further explained.
As of now, the judge overseeing the case has not issued any formal decisions.
