At the start of this week, approximately half of the US population has received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while around 40% have completed their vaccination. Progress is being made, but whether President Biden’s target of 70% partially vaccinated by July 4 will be achieved remains uncertain.
Various major companies have been offering incentives to boost vaccination rates among the undecided. These incentives range from small perks like free donuts from Krispy Kreme to larger initiatives such as statewide lotteries. Joining this trend, CVS has introduced a new incentive resembling an afternoon game show.
From June 1 to July 10, CVS will be hosting the “One Step Closer” sweepstakes. Individuals who schedule and receive one or both COVID-19 vaccine doses at a CVS pharmacy can participate in winning one of 1,000 diverse prizes. The prize packages are quite enticing and include items like tickets to the 2022 Super Bowl, a $5,000 reward for a grand post-pandemic family gathering, and even passes for a Norwegian Cruise Line trip.

CVS aims for the sweepstakes to help reduce vaccine hesitancy, especially as recent CDC surveys indicate a 17% hesitancy rate among adults aged 18 and above.
While these incentives may appear unconventional, they are proving effective. Ohio has initiated a statewide lottery offering a $1 million prize for vaccinated individuals, leading to a notable 45% rise in vaccination rates based on local government data.
