DeLorean Making a Comeback with an Electric Vehicle

In 1985, a time machine was created using a DeLorean by Doctor Emmet Brown, stating that style should accompany such a creation. This moment became iconic in the film Back to the Future, transforming the DeLorean Motor Company from a defunct producer of unique sports cars into a lasting pop culture symbol. Regrettably, the DMC had already ceased operations before the movie was released, mainly due to concerns about the car’s construction and fuel efficiency (Mister Fusion had not been invented at that time), making the cars extremely rare collectibles. However, things are changing now.

In a brief promotional announcement following the Super Bowl, the newly revived DeLorean Motor Company revealed exciting news that many have long awaited: the DeLorean is making a return, and it is happening this year. Moreover, this new DeLorean model will be fully powered by electricity, marking a significant shift from its traditional fuel source.

Although only a silhouette of the new vehicle was shown in the promo, its distinctive gull-wing doors make its profile unmistakable. The hints on the promo’s Twitter post suggest that despite being an electric vehicle, the new DeLorean is positioned as a luxury car. The exact meaning of this luxury status in today’s terms remains to be seen. However, the DMC aims to launch this new vehicle to the public by the end of 2022, and it is likely that every Back to the Future enthusiast will aspire to have one, provided the design stays true to the original model.
