In recent times, multiple U.S.-based airlines have faced challenges with disruptive and sometimes aggressive passengers. According to the latest data from the Federal Aviation Administration, there have been over 4,385 incident reports, with about a third attributed to issues related to wearing face masks for pandemic safety. Despite the FAA enforcing a zero-tolerance approach and placing unruly passengers on warning lists, incidents remain high, impacting flight crews significantly.
To prevent troublesome passengers from boarding their flights, Delta Airlines has proposed a collaborative effort. While each airline maintains its own No-Fly list to prevent listed individuals from flying, this often results in the passenger causing disruptions on a different airline. Therefore, Delta suggests that airlines share their No-Fly lists to better monitor unruly passengers.
In a communication to flight attendants, Kristen Manion Taylor, Delta’s senior vice president of in-flight service, stated that the airline has requested “other airlines to share their ‘no fly’ list to further protect airline employees across the industry — something we know is top of mind for you as well.”
“A list of banned customers doesn’t work as well if that customer can fly with another airline.”

Some airlines are also considering restrictions on alcohol sales. As many reported unruly passengers were under the influence, American Airlines and Southwest Airlines have suspended the provision of alcoholic beverages on their flights. Rep. Peter DeFazio, chair of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, highlighted in a written testimony the importance of local restaurants refraining from selling alcohol in to-go cups to aid in addressing this issue.
“There is no reason that a passenger should be able to leave a restaurant with a ‘to-go’ cup of alcohol and board a plane with it,” he emphasized.
