Even if you’re not familiar with anime and manga, chances are you’ve heard about Kimetsu no Yaiba, also known as Demon Slayer. This wildly popular manga series turned anime has seen remarkable success, surpassing the entire US comic book industry in sales. The author, Koyoharu Gotouge, even made it to the Time 100 Next list, recognizing emerging talents in business. While a second season of the anime is in the works, audiences in the West are eagerly anticipating the movie release.

Demon Slayer – Kimetsu No Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train is a film adaptation of the Mugen Train arc from the manga. Upon its release in Japan last October, the movie took the box office by storm, grossing over $100 million in just ten days. Western fans have long awaited the opportunity to watch this movie, but the uncertainty surrounding theatrical releases due to the COVID-19 pandemic has delayed its arrival. Thankfully, distributors Aniplex and Funimation have now announced the release date for Western audiences.

Mugen Train will be shown in Western theaters with both English subtitles and dubbing from April 23 onward. The R-rated movie will be available in standard screenings, as well as in IMAX and 4DX where applicable. Advance tickets can be purchased on Funimation’s website starting April 9. For those hesitant to visit theaters, the movie will be available for digital streaming from June 22, with pre-orders starting on April 26. You can stream the film, with subtitles or dubbing, on platforms such as Apple TV, the Microsoft Store, Vudu, Google Play, the PlayStation Store, and Amazon. However, pricing details have not been revealed yet.

Shu Nishimoto, president of Aniplex of America, expressed excitement about the release, stating, “We are thrilled to be bringing Demon Slayer – Kimetsu No Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train to theaters in North America. The series has garnered immense support from fans worldwide, driving the success, and we are eager for everyone to witness the next chapter of Tanjiro’s journey as a Demon Slayer.”
