While Woody took the central stage in the 1995 film Toy Story and its subsequent sequels, it was Buzz Lightyear who captured the hearts of audiences. Buzz’s popularity as a toy translated into significant commercial success for Disney, leading to various merchandise and even a short-lived spin-off animated series. He remains a prominent figure among Disney’s non-princess characters, making it high time for him to have a movie dedicated solely to him.
Today, Disney and Pixar have revealed the initial trailer for ‘Lightyear,’ a new movie that delves into the origins of the Buzz Lightyear character. Presumably, this movie could be the one that inspired Toy Story‘s protagonist Andy to yearn for the Buzz Lightyear action figure, although ‘Lightyear’ appears to be a distinct narrative from the main Toy Story storyline.
The movie’s plot details are scant at the moment, with the trailer offering brief glimpses of Buzz’s space adventures and encounters with extraterrestrial civilizations, all set to the fitting tune of David Bowie’s “Starman.” Interestingly, Chris Evans will be stepping into the role of Buzz Lightyear instead of Tim Allen, who voiced Buzz in all four Toy Story films. Chris Evans seems enthusiastic about this new venture.
