The Electronic Entertainment Expo, known as E3, is a yearly convention that showcases the latest developments in the gaming industry, including game reveals, trailers, and hardware innovations. The event was canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, prompting many publishers and developers to release trailers independently. However, E3 is making a return in 2021 in an all-online format to prioritize safety.
The Entertainment Software Association announced that E3 2021 will be a virtual event with an online portal connecting attendees to virtual exhibitor booths. These booths will feature presentations, trailers, and interactive elements from various developers and publishers. The event will also include livestreamed events, gameplay, social media engagement, and participation opportunities like forums and leaderboards. Confirmed participants include Nintendo, Xbox, Capcom, Konami, Ubisoft, Take-Two Interactive, and Warner Bros. Games.

In addition to accessing the online portal via a computer, attendees can also use the dedicated E3 2021 app available on the iPhone App Store and Google Play Store for Android. The app will offer the same content as the portal and additional mobile-friendly features like polls and highlighted Tweets. For those who prefer not to use the app or portal, E3 broadcasts will be available on platforms such as Twitch, YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook.
The event is scheduled to take place from June 12 to June 15. Preregistration is free and will open later this month. Additionally, a media access week will start on June 7, allowing press members to directly interact with developers and publishers for interviews and insights.
