Emma Heming Willis Advocates for Bruce’s Privacy

Willis wants paparazzi and fans to leave her husband alone after his dementia diagnosis.

Back in February, veteran film star Bruce Willis was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, a progressive brain condition that can affect an individual’s personality and behaviors. Willis has been stepping away from the film scene as his condition has progressed, and has been seeking a more private life, though the paparazzi has made this somewhat difficult.

In a recent Instagram video, Willis’s wife, Emma Heming Willis, called for paparazzi and fans to stop approaching Bruce and bothering him about his condition. “For the video people, please don’t be yelling at my husband asking him how he’s doing or whatever — the woohoo-ing and the yippee ki yays … just don’t do it. OK?” she said.

Some fans criticized Willis for seeking attention with her post, prompting her to make a follow-up post to assert her stance on her husband and his condition. “I just saw something about me getting my five minutes, which is great. Which means that you’re listening.”

“So I’m going to take my five minutes, and I’m going to turn it into 10 because I’m always going to advocate for my husband.”

“I am going to turn my grief and my anger and my sadness and do something good around something that feels less than. So, watch this space because I didn’t come to play.”

In the caption for the post, Willis stated that she has “sat around quietly for too long and I’m so ready to be embraced by this solid and loving community my family and I find ourselves in while trying to lift them up in return. Let’s go.”
