Hollywood Star Chooses Unconventional Travel, Making a Memorable Entrance at TIFF
Acclaimed actor and Emmy Award winner Ethan Hawke made a surprising choice for his arrival at the premiere of his latest film, “Wildcat,” at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Instead of the usual glamorous means of transportation, Hawke opted for a Greyhound bus, creating a memorable entrance that caught the attention of the media and fans.
During the prestigious TIFF event in Toronto, Canada, the 52-year-old actor walked the red carpet with his daughter, actress Maya Hawke, making quite an impression. PEOPLE magazine had the opportunity to speak exclusively with the father-daughter duo and learn more about their unconventional journey.
Ethan Hawke explained that he took the Greyhound bus because all of his scheduled flights were canceled, ensuring that he wouldn’t miss the highly-anticipated event. Maya Hawke confirmed her father’s choice and mentioned how everyone was talking about it.
The actor’s daughter humorously recounted the situation, saying, “He did! Everyone’s talking about it! He had to take the bus here ’cause all the flights got canceled.” Ethan Hawke proudly stood by her side, smiling, as she continued, “Three flights canceled, then I was like, ‘I’m not gonna miss this because of some airport,’ so, I went to Port Authority and hopped on the bus.”

Furthermore, Ethan Hawke revealed that he wasn’t alone on this adventure; his wife and producing partner accompanied him on the Greyhound journey.
When asked if his fame was recognized by fellow passengers or at the bus station, Hawke played down his celebrity status, stating, “Man, nobody cares about anybody else on the bus.” He humorously pointed out that taking a bus is generally an uncomfortable experience, and nobody pays attention to anyone else. He passed the time by reading a book and kept a low profile until customs, where he was finally recognized shortly before dawn.
The father-daughter duo also shared their deep connection to the film “Wildcat.” Maya Hawke, 25, described the filmmaking process as “unspeakably special” and one of the greatest experiences of her life. They both expressed their gratitude for being part of TIFF and were thrilled about the opportunity to share the movie with fans and peers.
During the event, Ethan Hawke took a moment to address the audience and playfully praised his daughter’s performance in the film. He said, “If you see anything else tonight, what you’re going to see is a young artist just circle around their father and sprint out the door, pat him on the a– as she goes by.” He continued to express his excitement for everyone to witness Maya’s exceptional work in “Wildcat.”
