# Father and Son Sentenced for Aiding Escape of Carlos Ghosn

Back in December of 2019, Carlos Ghosn, the ex-chairman of Nissan, was detained for allegedly underreporting his income and misusing company funds. After being in confinement for a year, Ghosn mysteriously disappeared from Japan and was later found hiding in Lebanon, a country without an extradition treaty with Japan.
Michael Taylor and his son Peter were arrested in Massachusetts last year for helping Ghosn escape and were brought to Japan for trial in March. Although Ghosn orchestrated the escape and potentially misled the father-son duo, they were still held accountable for their involvement. Today, they have been sentenced: Michael will serve two years in a Japanese prison, while Peter will serve one year and eight months.
The defense attorney for the Taylors argued for suspended sentences, citing the 10 months spent in US holding during their extradition. However, the Chief Judge emphasized that holding time does not equate to time served and should be considered separately.
As for the third member of the escape team, George-Antoine Zayek, his whereabouts remain unknown.
