Frost Makes History as First Gen Z Member of Congress
Following the conclusion of the United States Midterm elections, various state races have been decided as votes are counted. In Florida, Governor Ron DeSantis secured a second term, but the state’s political landscape saw a new addition. In a notable contrast to DeSantis, Florida welcomed a young and fresh face to Congress.
Democratic candidate Maxwell Frost emerged victorious in the race for Florida’s 10th Congressional District, surpassing his Republican contender Calvin Wimbish. Frost will take over from the current Congress representative, Val Demings, who opted to challenge Florida Senator Marco Rubio instead. At just 25 years old, Frost becomes the inaugural member of Generation Z to be elected to the US Congress, marking a significant milestone.
Shortly after his election win, Frost took to Twitter to express his enthusiasm, stating, “History was made tonight. We made history for Floridians, for Gen Z, and for everyone who believes we deserve a better future.”
Known for his advocacy work in politics and social causes, Frost has actively campaigned for gun control and school safety measures. Previously, he held the role of national organizing director for the prominent activist group March for Our Lives.

Given the relatively advanced age of many current members of the US Congress, Frost’s arrival brings a much-needed injection of youth. Amanda Litman, co-founder of Run for Something, noted the significance, saying, “You see one 25-year-old run for Congress and win, you think I can do this too, and then more people step up. Someone is the first, more people are the second and the third, and the fourth.” Litman added, “We are just seeing the beginning of Gen Z’s engagement as political leaders.”
