Follow These Tips To Avoid Getting Sick While Traveling

Hiking up a beautiful mountain, drifting through the busy city streets, and indulging in local cuisines you can’t find anywhere else during these amazing travel experiences, the last thing you will want is an illness. Some illnesses caught while traveling could be dangerous. It doesn’t matter what the disease is, even if the sickness is mild, you would want to avoid it as much as possible.

When you’re not feeling your best, it can put a damper on your trip. No matter where you’re going, traveling has some exposure risks. Germs are everywhere on public transportation, especially at the airports. However, you can protect yourself from viruses (especially coronavirus) and other such illnesses by following the below-given tips to avoid the risk of getting sick while traveling.

1. Drink bottled water

The safety of tap water largely depends on locations. Developing countries struggle the most in providing access to clean tap water. You must be sure to use bottled water while visiting any of the developing nations. Even restaurants in developing countries will serve you bottled water.

But this is not the case of developed nations take, for example, U.S. Tap water is mostly safe to consume. So before you go for tap water, it is essential to ensure whether it is safe to drink or not.

2. Don’t ask for ice cubes

You should also not ask for ice with your drinks because most developing countries make it from tap water, which isn’t safe to consume. Freezing bacteria doesn’t always kill the bacteria, so it’s better to skip ice if you can.

3. Don’t touch surfaces on the airplane

The airplane’s inside is a hotbed for bacteria. Planes can’t be cleaned thoroughly between flights which you board, the bacteria left behind from hundreds of other passengers are waiting for you inside the plane. Avoid touching certain areas of the airplane like insides of seat pockets.

4. Don’t touch your face while aboard

Additionally, keeping your hands away from the more bacteria-ridden surfaces, you also want to keep your hands off your face. Though we know most of you will avoid touching the dirtiest areas of the plane and airport, it’s impossible not to touch anything at all. When you reach your face after touching any surface, you’re transferring all that bacteria to your pores. So, it’s better to wait until you’ve washed your hands before touching your face. If washing your hands is not possible, then try to keep sanitizing them.

5. Wash glasses in the hotel before using them

Hotels often clean the water glasses with the help of glass cleaner rather than actual water and soap, which is toxic for human consumption. There is a chance of glass not being washed at all, especially if you are staying in a cheap hotel. Make sure to clean the glasses provided in your room before using them.

6. Drink water, stay hydrated

Hydration is essential, especially when you’re traveling. It can be tough to remember when to drink water while you’re out exploring or when you’re traveling on buses or planes. Try to carry a water bottle with you and drink as much water as possible because dehydration can make you feel fatigued.
