Thunberg called out powerful individuals for prioritizing short-term profits over long-term sustainability.
This past week, the World Economic Forum took place in Davos, Switzerland. The event gathered influential figures from the business and political realms to discuss global economic matters. Among the speakers was the young environmental activist Greta Thunberg, who recently took part in a protest against the expansion of a German coal mine.
Thunberg delivered a direct message to the audience, criticizing many of the elite business and political leaders for overlooking the ongoing climate crisis in pursuit of immediate financial gains.
Thunberg expressed her frustration, stating, “We are currently in Davos, where the very individuals who are greatly contributing to the planet’s destruction, the ones at the heart of the climate emergency, the ones heavily invested in fossil fuels, and so on, are the ones we expect to solve our problems.”

She continued, “They have consistently shown that they don’t prioritize the greater good. Instead, they focus on personal and corporate greed, and short-term financial gains over the well-being of people and the planet.”
“These individuals will push the boundaries as far as possible for their own benefit. They will persist in investing in fossil fuels and sacrificing people’s well-being for their own profit,” she added.
