# Hurricane Ida Leaves Millions Without Power
Severe impact from Hurricane Ida has left New Orleans and other Louisiana cities in turmoil over the weekend. The powerful storm brought strong winds and flash floods to the region, with Governor John Bel Edwards describing it as one of the most devastating in 160 years. Aside from infrastructural damage, the local power grid operated by Entergy New Orleans has suffered significant harm, resulting in a widespread power outage across the city.
At present, emergency backup generators are the sole power source maintaining the city’s storm drainage system. The Sewerage & Water Board of New Orleans is also utilizing generators to ensure the continuous supply of running water. Residents are advised to use water judiciously to prevent sewage backups.
The town of Jean Lafitte is facing levee breaches and flooding due to excessive rainfall. Rescue teams have been mobilized to search for an estimated 200 individuals stranded by the tidal surge.
