Since its release on Netflix last month, Korean drama Squid Game has become a household name. Hundreds of millions of people have streamed it, and it’s managed to draw in audiences across cultures, languages, and generations. Not long after I got my own parents to watch it, they told me that all of their friends’ kids had gotten them to watch it as well! This year’s Halloween was absolutely lousy with Squid Game costumes, though several schools had to ban kids from wearing them due to the show’s age rating. With all that fame, not to mention the show’s cliffhanger ending, the question on everyone’s mind is whether or not there’s more to come. According to the show’s creator, there most definitely is.

At a red carpet event for Squid Game held at NeueHouse in Los Angeles earlier this week, the show’s creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, confirmed that he’s developing ideas for a second season.

“There’s been so much demand, love and attention for a season two so I feel I have no choice but to make a season two,” Hwang said.

“I have a rough idea about it but I think it’s too early to say when or how specifically. But I can promise you this — Gi-hun will come back and he will do something for the world.”

Netflix themselves haven’t actually greenlit the show for a second season in an official capacity just yet. That said, they have begun business discussions already, and barring any kind of major controversy, it’s probably a safe bet that this will happen at some point in the near future.
