Kourtney Kardashian opens up about the urgent prenatal surgery she faced during her pregnancy in a recent episode of the Kardashians, recounting her experiences while carrying her child, Rocky, who is now seven months old.
During an emotionally charged phase of her pregnancy, Kourtney Kardashian confronted the need for immediate prenatal surgery before the arrival of her and Travis Barker’s first child together. She shares this intimate story in the newly aired episodes of The Kardashians on Disney+, where she is a mother to a brood of five.
Speculation swirled last year as the famed reality TV star was seen hastily entering a hospital for prenatal surgery just as Travis set off for a European tour with his band, Blink-182.
Recounting the moments in the fifth episode of The Kardashians, Kourtney conveys how an abnormality was spotted in her unborn baby by a medical expert during an ultrasound conducted at her home.
Prompted by early detection during a home ultrasound, Kourtney sought advice from specialists who determined the necessity of an immediate surgical intervention.
“We had scheduled a home ultrasound for the family to see the baby before Travis’s tour,” Kourtney shares on The Kardashians. “The physician managing the examination was particularly thorough and detected an issue that led him to urge a specialist consultation.”
Although the precise nature of the alarm remains undisclosed by Kourtney, she relays that following the specialist’s counsel, swift action was taken to carry out the surgery.
Confiding in her friends, she elaborated, “We went through a prenatal surgery wherein the baby is operated on inside the womb.” With Kris Jenner by her side, Kourtney recounts being prohibited from eating and drinking pre-surgery and relying on assistance post-surgery due to the restrictions.
Despite geographical barriers and unreliable in-flight wifi, Travis hurried back to the US, catching up on events as they unfolded.
“Travis was at the hospital immediately following his arrival, assuming a caretaker’s role and staying with me through the night,” Kourtney recalls. “The surgery was done by then because the doctors couldn’t delay.”
Friends and family highlighted the steadfastness of Travis, noting his exemplary support throughout the ordeal.
Acknowledging this, Kourtney expressed to him, “You truly are my life partner.”
Kourtney was then instructed to undertake substantial bed rest, limiting her time on her feet to no more than 20 minutes at a stretch.
When a friend asked about the urgency of the complications faced by her baby, Kourtney emphasized the lifesaving immediacy of the procedure.
“The quick action was nothing short of miraculous,” she went on, “and I’m incredibly thankful for how things turned out and for the medical teams that made all the right calls ensuring our baby’s safety.”
Their doctor reminded Kourtney and her family that the episode warranted time for mental processing, acknowledging the trauma they experienced.
“The doctor stressed the significance of recognizing the traumatic nature of the event we went through,” Kourtney narrates.
Prenatal surgery, a specialized procedure carried out on a fetus in the womb, aims to correct certain birth defects and potentially improve the child’s outcome after birth.
When an unborn child presents with specific life-threatening conditions, prenatal surgery may be considered, although it’s a rare and complex intervention that necessitates a careful evaluation before proceeding.
