After the release of its fourth season in late May, the popular Netflix science fiction series, Stranger Things, became closely associated with the iconic 1985 track “Running Up That Hill” by Kate Bush. The song played a significant role in the show’s plot and was a recurring theme, even appearing in the newly unveiled trailer for the second half of the season, scheduled for release on July 1.
Recently, Kate Bush, known for her reserved nature, granted a rare interview with BBC Radio 4, as reported by Stylist, sharing her thoughts on the show and the resurgence of her song.
In her own words, Bush said, “[Stranger Things] is such a great series, I thought that the track would get some attention. But I just never imagined that it would be anything like this. It’s so exciting. But it’s quite shocking really, isn’t it? I mean, the whole world’s gone mad!”
She went on to add, “What’s really wonderful is that this is a whole new audience. In a lot of cases, they’ve never heard of me. And I love that! The thought of all these really young people hearing the song for the first time and discovering it, I think it’s very special.”

Despite not frequently revisiting her older music, Bush mentioned that she had not listened to “Running Up That Hill” in quite some time before its inclusion in Stranger Things.
Expressing her feelings, she said, “I think they’ve put it in a really special place. I mean, the Duffer Brothers created the series and, actually, we watched it from the first season onwards, so I was already familiar with the series. And I thought what a lovely way for the song to be used in such a positive way – you know, as a kind of talisman, almost, for Max. And yeah, I think it’s very touching, actually.”
