Kate Middleton’s Melodic Surprise at Eurovision Song Contest
The Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in Liverpool featured a delightful surprise from Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales. In a pre-recorded opening sequence, Kate showcased her musical talents by playing a 10-second instrumental piece on a grand piano. The composition, created by Joe Price and Kojo Samuel, was previously performed by Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra, the winner of last year’s Eurovision.
The Prince and Princess of Wales’ Instagram page posted about the unexpected appearance, stating, “A #Eurovision surprise. A pleasure to join @kalush.official in a special performance of last year’s winning @eurovision entry. Enjoy the show, Liverpool.”
To honor Ukraine, the event’s host on behalf of Liverpool, Kate wore a royal blue Jenny Packham gown symbolizing the colors of the Ukrainian flag. She also paid tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II by wearing sapphire earrings that once belonged to the monarch.
The musical performance was filmed in the Crimson Drawing Room of Windsor Castle earlier this month. This was the second instance of Kate publicly showcasing her musical ability, the first being when she played the piano alongside singer Tom Walker at a televised Christmas Eve service at Westminster Abbey in December 2021.
