Lindsay Lohan to Resume Acting Career

If you were a child of the 90s or early 2000s, you’ve almost definitely seen at least one film with Lindsay Lohan in it. After her breakout role in the remake of Disney’s The Parent Trap, Lohan was one of the most ubiquitous young actors in the film industry, starring in hit films like Freaky Friday and Mean Girls. Unfortunately, as is often the case with younger actors, the limelight life and paparazzi became overwhelming, prompting her to distance herself from the biz in the early 2010s and moving abroad. However, back in 2019, Lohan said on a CNN interview that she “come back to America and start filming again,” and that she’s “taking back the life that I worked so hard for, and sharing it with my family and you guys.” After a bit of a pause due to the pandemic, she’s making good on that declaration.

In an exclusive with Variety, Lohan announced her first major returning role: a currently untitled rom-com Christmas special on Netflix. If you didn’t know (and I sure didn’t), Netflix has been making a tidy sum in recent years cooking up Christmas-themed movies in a vein usually filled by Hallmark, and this new film is no exception. According to Variety’s report, Lohan’s role in this film will be a “newly engaged, spoiled hotel heiress” who develops amnesia after a skiing mishap. She then “finds herself in the care of a handsome, blue-collar lodge owner and his precocious daughter in the days leading up to Christmas.”

If that sounds like a textbook Hallmark Christmas movie, you may be amused to know that the director for the film, Janeen Damian, has previous directorial experience on Hallmark Christmas movies, so you can probably guess how this film is going to play out. Still, even if it’s for a cheesy holiday romcom, good on Lindsay Lohan for getting back in the swing of things after her long hiatus.
