Makeshift Bedrooms Set Up in Twitter HQ

Employees have been wordlessly urged to sleep on the premises.

In recent weeks, following the mass layoff of Twitter employees, new owner Elon Musk has made abundantly clear that the working culture of the company is taking a turn for the severe. Musk has repeatedly stressed a “hardcore” work culture, urging anyone who isn’t willing to work nonstop all days of the week to quit. As a byproduct of this culture, employees are now being encouraged to sleep on the premises of Twitter’s San Francisco HQ.

According to a Forbes report, Twitter employees who returned to the office at the start of this week found several of the building’s offices and conference rooms converted into makeshift bedrooms featuring “unmade mattresses, drab curtains and giant conference-room telepresence monitors.”

According to an anonymous source within the company that spoke to Forbes, no announcement was made regarding the creation of these bedrooms. “It’s not a good look,” they said. “It’s yet another unspoken sign of disrespect. There is no discussion. Just like, beds showed up.”

“People are already putting in late nights, so it makes sense to an extent,” another anonymous source noted.

While some workers have expressed concerns about the necessity of sleeping where they work, some have noted that, at the very least, proper beds are a marked improvement for them. Prior to this, those staying late at the office were reportedly sleeping on the floor in sleeping bags.
