Following the passing of Alex Trebek in November 2021, Sony Pictures Television has been testing various guest hosts in search of the new faces of the popular game show Jeopardy! After experimenting with different hosts, Sony has made its decision on who will lead the show. Actually, it’s a duo.
Mike Richards, the executive producer of Jeopardy!, will take on the role of the primary host moving forward. Alongside him, actress Mayim Bialik will co-host the show during significant primetime events and a potential spin-off.
According to Ravi Ahuja, chairman of global television studios and corporate development at Sony Pictures, “We are excited to kick off the next era of America’s beloved quiz show with Mike anchoring our regular show and Mayim leading new iterations of Jeopardy!.” Ahuja explained the extensive process Sony went through to select the hosts, acknowledging the significance of the decision given the legacy of Alex Trebek.
Richards expressed his gratitude for being chosen, stating, “I am deeply honored to take on this significant role and will dedicate myself to ensuring our incredible contestants shine in every episode.” He highlighted Trebek’s influence on how the game and contestants are central to the show, vowing to carry on that legacy. Richards also praised Bialik’s academic background and enthusiasm for the game, expressing his enthusiasm for working with her on the primetime series.
Bialik shared her excitement about joining the Jeopardy! team, reflecting on how a rumor suggested she should guest host eventually led to this incredible opportunity. She expressed gratitude for the chance to collaborate with Richards and Sony, emphasizing her readiness to begin this new chapter.
