The Miss Universe beauty pageant, which was postponed last year due to COVID-19, finally took place this year in Hollywood, Florida. Amidst a backdrop of protest and political expressions, 74 contestants from around the world competed to redefine beauty in their own terms. The ultimate winner of the 69th Miss Universe title is 26-year-old Andrea Meza from Mexico.
Expressing her gratitude, Meza stated in a release from the Miss Universe Organization, “I am extremely honored to have been chosen among the 73 other incredible women on stage tonight. Wearing the Miss Universe crown is a dream come true, and I aim to advocate for equality in the coming year and beyond.”
In her final speech, Meza highlighted the evolution of societal standards, remarking, “In today’s world, beauty goes beyond appearances. True beauty shines through our character, our actions, and our conduct. Do not let anyone undermine your worth.”
Hailing from Chihuahua City, Mexico, Meza works as a model and makeup artist while holding a degree in software engineering. Beyond her professional endeavors, she actively supports the Municipal Institute for Women to combat gender-based violence and serves as a tourism ambassador for her hometown.
As she steps into her new role, Meza will take on the charitable responsibilities of the Miss Universe title, succeeding Zozibini Tunzi, as she relocates to New York City to collaborate with the Miss Universe Organization.
