Prior to the E3 event a few weeks ago, rumors were swirling about Nintendo possibly unveiling an upgraded version of the Nintendo Switch known as the “Nintendo Switch Pro.” Speculations suggested it would come with a larger, more durable screen and enhanced processor and graphics card to offer a superior gaming experience. Even after E3, the anticipated upgrade failed to materialize, leading many to dismiss the rumors as unfounded. However, it turns out that Nintendo did have a surprise in store – a new Switch announcement, albeit not the one expected.
Today, Nintendo revealed that they are set to launch an enhanced version of the Nintendo Switch on October 8, just in time for the holiday shopping season. While this new model lacks an official name distinguishing it from the standard Switch, it boasts several noteworthy features. The most prominent change is the introduction of a 720p OLED screen, which Nintendo claims delivers a significantly clearer display compared to the base model’s LCD screen. Additionally, the new Switch comes with 64 GB of built-in storage and includes a wired LAN port in the system dock for users preferring a wired internet connection. The updated model also promises “improved audio,” although specifics on this enhancement remain limited. Lastly, the revamped model sports a substantially upgraded kickstand – a robust, console-wide flap with adjustable angles.

Regrettably, the speculations regarding improved processors and graphics capabilities turned out to be just that – speculations. According to Nintendo’s announcements, the new Switch does not feature any upgrades in processing power, and the bundled Joy-Cons are identical to those of the base model. For users utilizing their Switch with Nintendo Labo accessories, Nintendo cautions that the new console may not fit as snugly as the previous version.
The updated Switch is slated for release on October 8 with a price tag of $349.99. It will be available with the standard neon red and blue Joy-Cons alongside a black dock, as well as a version with two white Joy-Cons and a white dock.
