Nintendo stole the show at E3 with its announcement of a new game in the Metroid series and fresh footage of the upcoming sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. While the latter game showcased new gameplay mechanics and settings, one lingering question remains unanswered – its official title.
Since its teaser in 2019, the game has been referred to as “the sequel to Breath of the Wild” or simply ” Breath of the Wild 2,” but these are not the final names. Nintendo has stayed silent on the title, but they have now shed some light on the reason behind the mystery.
Bill Trinen from Nintendo Treehouse explained to IGN, “As for why we’re holding back on the name, you’ll just have to stay tuned because, obviously, Zelda names are kind of important. Those subtitles… they start to give little bits of hints about maybe what’s going to happen.”

Subtitles in Zelda titles often hint at crucial plot points and items, adding intrigue to the hidden title’s significance. For now, Nintendo is fine with fans continuing to refer to it as ” Breath of the Wild 2.”
“[ Breath of the Wild 2] is going to be shorthand and it’s natural for people to want to find a shorthand way to frame it. We’re still calling it the sequel to Breath of the Wild,” mentioned Trinen.
