Prior to E3 a few weeks ago, there were rumors circulating about Nintendo possibly introducing a new and enhanced version of the Nintendo Switch. The speculated “Nintendo Switch Pro” was anticipated to include a larger, more robust display along with an upgraded processor and graphics card for an enhanced gaming experience. However, despite the buzz leading up to E3, the anticipated upgrade did not materialize, leading many to dismiss it as mere speculation. Nonetheless, Nintendo did indeed have a new Switch to reveal, albeit not the one that was previously rumored.
On October 8th, just in time for the holiday season, Nintendo announced the launch of an upgraded Nintendo Switch model. Although this new model does not have an official name to distinguish it from the standard Switch model, it offers several notable improvements. The standout feature is its 720p OLED screen, which Nintendo claims delivers a significantly clearer display compared to the base model’s LCD screen. Additionally, the new Switch includes 64 GB of internal storage and incorporates a built-in wired LAN port in the system dock for users preferring a direct internet connection. The upgraded model is also set to feature “enhanced audio,” with limited details provided. Lastly, the new model introduces a vastly improved kickstand in the form of a sturdy, adjustable flap spanning the console.

Regrettably, the speculations regarding enhanced processors and graphics capabilities appear to have been unfounded rumors. According to Nintendo’s disclosures, the new Switch does not feature any upgrades to its processing power, and the included Joy-Cons are identical to those found in the base model. Moreover, Nintendo has cautioned that if you utilize your Switch with Nintendo Labo mounts, the new console may not fit as seamlessly as the previous version.
The updated Switch is slated for release on October 8th with a price tag of $349.99. It will be offered with the standard neon red and blue Joy-Cons along with a black dock, as well as a variant featuring two white Joy-Cons and a white dock.
