Cruise ships have long been known as potential breeding grounds for bacteria and viruses, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. To ensure passenger safety, cruise lines have implemented strict measures, but Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings has faced a significant obstacle.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis issued an executive order in April prohibiting businesses from requiring COVID-19 vaccination proof. This order clashes with Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings’ policy of mandating vaccinations for all passengers and crew. Consequently, the company has filed a legal complaint against the Florida government, particularly the surgeon general.
The complaint argues that the executive order puts the cruise line in a difficult position, forcing them to choose between health safety and complying with Florida law. Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings emphasizes the importance of vaccination in preventing COVID-19 transmission on cruise ships.
The company seeks to temporarily suspend the order to resume operations safely. If a resolution is not reached, they may consider relocating their business to other states or the Caribbean.
Norwegian Cruise Lines is suing Florida after the state banned vaccine passports, saying it cannot safely resume sailings without ensuring passengers and crew are vaccinated against COVID-19.
In its complaint, the company called the move a “last resort.” https://t.co/7iOPEV9rUB
