Chihuahuas are known for their strong immune systems, often living between 12 to 18 years, depending on their health. A remarkable chihuahua from Florida has broken this norm and found itself in the Guinness Book of World Records.
The oldest living dog in the world, named TobyKeith, is a 21-year-old chihuahua born on January 9, 2001. The record for the oldest dog ever goes to an Australian cattle dog that lived to 29 years old.
TobyKeith’s owner, Gisela Shore, shared with Guinness, “People are amazed at how well he looks for his age.” She adopted him as a puppy from a shelter after an elderly couple could no longer take care of him.

Despite his age, TobyKeith remains in good health, which Shore attributes to a healthy diet, an active lifestyle, good genetics, and lots of love and care. TobyKeith enjoys walks, turkey slices for snacks, playing around, and then relaxing by Shore’s side. While TobyKeith has a minor heart condition in his old age, Shore mentions that it hasn’t affected his daily routine much.
Expressing her excitement, Shore mentioned, “The fact that my little buddy has reached such an incredible milestone is amazing! I couldn’t be happier.”
