Out of all the sitcoms of the 90s, and there were a lot of them, Frasier was definitely one of the most well-received, running for 11 seasons over the course of 11 years. Beloved for both its expert storytelling and intelligent sense of humor, Frasier has long been one of the shining high points of Kelsey Grammer’s career, earning him six Emmys, three Golden Globes, a Screen Actors Guild Award and a Tony Award. Grammer has actually been quietly pulling for a revival of the series behind the scenes for a while now, and with the litany of reboots and revivals in the current age of entertainment, it looks like he’s finally getting his wish.

ViacomCBS announced during an investor presentation yesterday that a revival of Frasier has officially been ordered for their newly rebranded streaming service, Paramount+. Grammer will naturally reprise his role as Dr. Frasier Crane, and he will also be acting as one of the show’s executive producers. Currently, though, no other members of the original cast have been formally tapped for the project, though since it was only just ordered, this could change down the line.

“Having spent over 20 years of my creative life on the Paramount lot, both producing shows and performing in several, I’d like to congratulate Paramount+ on its entry into the streaming world,” said Grammer. “I gleefully anticipate sharing the next chapter in the continuing journey of Dr. Frasier Crane.”

“Frasier is one of the most acclaimed comedies in modern television history and truly defines premium storytelling,” said David Stapf, president of CBS Studios. “There has long been a call from fans for its return, and that call is now answered thanks to the amazing Kelsey Grammer reprising his iconic role of Dr. Frasier Crane and a brilliant creative plan from Joe, Chris and Kelsey. We can’t wait to reveal its next chapter on Paramount +.”
