Pepsi, in response to Coca-Cola’s release of Coke Starlight flavor, introduces Nitro Pepsi, a unique beverage that sets itself apart from regular Pepsi. Unlike traditional carbonated drinks, Nitro Pepsi uses nitrogen for carbonation, resulting in a less intense fizz and a velvety texture. The nitrogen is released from a special “widget” at the bottom of the can upon opening, similar to the technology used in Guinness beer cans. Nitro Pepsi offers a creamy profile akin to stout beers and is best served chilled in a tall glass without ice.

“While soda has been a beverage of choice for so many consumers over the past century, some people still cite heavy carbonation as a barrier to enjoying an ice-cold cola,” said Todd Kaplan, Pepsi’s vice president of marketing. Kaplan believes that Nitro represents a significant advancement in the cola category that will redefine cola offerings for years to come.
Nitro Pepsi will be available in single cans and four-packs at supermarkets starting on March 28.
