Disney is working on a live-action remake of their classic animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The decision to cast Latina actress Rachel Zegler as Snow White received some positive feedback for its progressive approach. However, actor Peter Dinklage expressed his concerns about the portrayal of the dwarfs in the story.
Speaking on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast, Dinklage questioned the significance of casting a Latina actress in the lead role while maintaining the problematic depiction of the seven dwarfs. He emphasized the need for a more thoughtful approach to representation in the story.
“I don’t mean any disrespect, but casting a Latina actress as Snow White doesn’t address the underlying issue of the story itself,” said Dinklage. “The portrayal of the seven dwarfs is a concern that Disney seems to be overlooking.”
Dinklage, who has dwarfism, has been an advocate for equality in the industry. He highlighted the portrayal of the seven dwarfs as a regressive representation that needs to be reconsidered by Disney.

“You can’t claim progressivism while perpetuating a story about seven dwarfs living together in a cave. It’s a backward approach,” Dinklage expressed his frustration. “I have used my platform to advocate for change, but it seems like it’s not enough. The production team should reassess their approach to the story.”
Dinklage suggested that the movie doesn’t need to be scrapped but rather reimagined with a fresh and progressive perspective. “Let’s retell the story of Snow White in a unique and inclusive way. I’m all for it,” he added.
