Yesterday marked Pokemon Day, celebrating the anniversary of the first mainline Pokemon video games. In honor of this occasion, The Pokemon Company hosted a livestream presentation highlighting new features for their mobile and console Pokemon games. However, the standout announcement came at the end.
During the presentation, The Pokemon Company unveiled Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the latest additions to the mainline Pokemon series and the official games of the 9th generation. These games are set to launch on the Nintendo Switch towards the end of 2022, most likely during the holiday season.
The Pokemon Company shared that Scarlet and Violet will introduce an “open world where various towns seamlessly blend into the wilderness,” emphasizing that “Pokemon will be visible everywhere in this expansive world – in the skies, seas, and streets.”

The starter Pokemon were showcased in the trailer: the Grass type Pokemon Sprigatito with feline features, the Water type Pokemon Quaxly resembling a duck, and the unique Fire type Fuecoco, a mix of an alligator and a pepper. Observing the names of these starters and the architectural cues in the trailer, fans speculate that the game’s new region might draw inspiration from Spanish culture and architecture.
The specific differences between the Scarlet and Violet versions have not been detailed, but it was mentioned that the player character will have a unique starting outfit based on the version.
