The TV series Riverdale on The CW may seem harmless at first glance, as it is based on the beloved Archie comics. However, as you dive deeper, you’ll discover it’s rather peculiar. The show has seen Archie turn into a gangster, Jughead faking his demise, numerous serial killers, and even a storyline revolving around a cult. Despite its eccentricities, Riverdale has been a surprising success, spanning six seasons to date.
Today, it was revealed that the upcoming seventh season of Riverdale, scheduled to air during CW’s midseason in 2023, will mark the end of the show.
Mark Pedowitz, the head of CW, expressed, “I am a strong advocate for giving long-running series a proper conclusion. We had an extensive discussion with Roberto [Aguirre-Sacasa] yesterday, and he is pleased with the decision,” Pedowitz shared with Deadline, emphasizing that “seven years feels right.”
“We aim to give the show the farewell it deserves. It has been an iconic presence in pop culture, and we are committed to ensuring it exits gracefully,” Pedowitz added.

Back in December 2021, Cole Sprouse, one of the show’s actors, shared his thoughts on the potential conclusion of the series in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “It’s been an incredible journey,” Sprouse remarked. “I feel fortunate that the audience embraced the show, providing an amazing platform for the young actors on the series to reflect on when the series eventually wraps up, recognizing it as a significant opportunity for us all.”
