The original Spy Kids movie, released in 2001, was a unique and beloved film, especially for kids. Director Robert Rodriguez has announced plans to reboot the franchise with the help of Skydance Media and Spyglass Media Group. Rodriguez, who will once again write and direct the new film, seems inspired by the success of We Can Be Heroes, a sequel of sorts to Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl.
Given that the original child actors, Daryl Sabara and Alexa PenaVega, are now grown up, a new cast will be assembled for the reboot. Rodriguez hinted at aiming for a “multicultural family” for the spy-centric storyline. While specific casting details are yet to be revealed, fans are eagerly awaiting any announcements.

Meanwhile, Rodriguez has been involved in projects like Star Wars, contributing to The Mandalorian and the future Book of Boba Fett. The success of the Spy Kids reboot could pave the way for Rodriguez to explore more creative ventures, potentially including a sequel to Alita: Battle Angel.
