The recent train derailment in Alabama involves a Norfolk Southern train that was not carrying dangerous materials, resulting in no significant damages or injuries reported.
On the same day that Norfolk Southern CEO Alan Shaw was scheduled to address Congress regarding a major train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, another train from the same company derailed in Alabama. The incident occurred in Calhoun County, Alabama, where 37 train cars derailed. Fortunately, none of these cars were transporting hazardous materials this time. While two of the cars had previously carried hazardous materials and were considered “residue” cars, they were structurally intact, posing no immediate threats to the local community’s health and safety.

“They did not breach. There is no hazardous material leak. There is no risk at all to the public,” stated Norfolk Southern spokesperson Connor Spielmaker during a press conference. He further emphasized, “Rail transportation remains the safest mode for transporting materials in the country.”

Pictures from the scene depict the overturned train cars. As of now, the exact cause of the incident remains unknown and is being investigated by local authorities. Calhoun Sheriff Matthew Wade stated, “Everybody is safe. They have already assembled a large crew with cranes and are actively addressing the situation.”
