As part of the Nintendo Switch’s online service, Nintendo Switch Online, subscribers receive access to online play, exclusive online games like Tetris 99, and growing collections of games from the Nintendo Entertainment System and Super Nintendo Entertainment System. While these libraries feature popular titles such as Super Mario Bros. and Kirby Super Star, there is a noticeable absence of many fan-favorite games.
Fans have been vocal about their desire for specific games to be included, especially in the SNES library, with popular requests including titles like Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, Earthbound, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time. However, Nintendo’s announcements of new library additions often disappoint users as the featured games are often obscure, leading to frustration among the community.
Recently, a video released by Nintendo on their YouTube channel revealed the addition of Claymates, Jelly Boy, and Bombuzal to the SNES library. These relatively unknown games received a significantly higher number of dislikes compared to likes, indicating a common trend. While comments are disabled on these videos, users express their discontent on social media platforms like Twitter, drawing parallels to the past experience of renting games from Blockbuster.
Nintendo Switch Online really is bringing back the experience of having to play whatever is still available to rent at Blockbuster. https://t.co/UfMFrQ753E

Adding to the dissatisfaction, users on the Japanese eShop, with access to the Super Famicom library, have enjoyed releases of sought-after classics like Fire Emblem and Shin Megami Tensei. A recent survey conducted by Nintendo among Switch Online users highlighted these concerns, but the company’s response to these complaints remains uncertain.
