The winning photo is currently exhibited at London’s Natural History Museum.
During the holiday season, the nominees for the 2022 Wildlife Photographer of the Year People’s Choice Award were announced. This prestigious award recognizes exceptionally skilled wildlife photographers who capture stunning images of animals in their natural habitats. While this year’s competition showcased remarkable photos of red foxes, golden snub-nosed monkeys, and polar bear cubs, the winning photograph was recently unveiled.
After receiving a majority of the 60,466 votes among 25 top contenders, the award went to German photographer Sascha Fonseca. Fonseca’s winning image features a captivating shot of a snow leopard perched on the mountains of Ladakh in northern India during a picturesque sunset. The photo not only captures the beauty of the moment but also highlights the rarity of the subject, as there are only about 6,500 snow leopards remaining in the world today.
Expressing his views, Fonseca stated, “Photography serves as a bridge between people and wildlife, fostering an appreciation for the hidden natural world. I believe that enhancing our knowledge of wildlife leads to a deeper sense of care, potentially resulting in active advocacy and heightened public interest in conservation efforts.”
